A textile moisture meter is a device used to measure the moisture content in fabrics, yarns, and raw fibres to ensure quality control in the manufacturing process. Maintaining ideal moisture levels is critical for textile properties like strength and elasticity, and prevents issues like mould growth and dye inconsistencies. It is a portable measuring machine used to determine the moisture content in textile, fabrics, yarns, and fibre. It is widely used in the textile industry for quality control, production monitoring, and storage management since moisture levels directly affect fabric weight, strength, dye uptake, and processing efficiency.

Function: Measures the percentage of moisture content in textile materials to ensure they meet production and storage requirements.

Working Principle: Typically based on electrical resistance or capacitance methods—since the electrical properties of textiles change depending on their moisture content. Advanced models may also use infrared (IR) or microwave technology for non-contact measurement.

Design:

  1. Handheld body with a digital display (LCD or LED) showing moisture percentage.
  2. Probes/electrodes (pin or flat-surface type) that make contact with the textile sample.
  3. Some models feature calibration settings for different textile types (cotton, wool, polyester, blends, etc.).

Measurement Range: Usually 0–40% moisture content (depending on the meter and fabric type).

Accuracy: ±0.5% to ±1% depending on the device.

Power Source: Battery-operated (commonly 9V or rechargeable lithium).
